Minebea considers environmental protection of primary importance in conducting its business and has taken effective steps to protect the environment at its manufacturing facilities throughout the world. Particularly in Thailand, Minebea has been active in making proprietary new washing system for environmental protection widely known during plant tours and at international conferences such as 1992 Thai-Japan-U. S. Trilateral Conference on the Protection of the Ozone Layer held in Thailand. Minebea's commitment to environmental protection has been highly acclaimed by local communicates and national governments. |

All of Minebea Group of companies in Thailand receive ISO14001 certification |

In April 1997, Minebea received ISO 14001 certification, Environmental Management System, for Karuizawa headquarters plant and the UK subsidiary's plant as the first winners in bearing industry in the world. And all of Minebea Group companies in Thailand received ISO 14001 certifications simulataneously for all 30 production divisions of all plants in October 1997.

All of Minebea Group of companies in Thailand phase out consumption of specific CFC (Chlorofluorocarbons-113) and Ethane (1.1.1.- Trichloro ethane) for cleaning |

Minebea developed "Cleaning system with purified water" and phased out consumption of specific CFC and Ethane throughout the group member plants at the end of April 1998, being the first application in the worldwide bearing industry. In particular, all of Minbea group of companies in Thailand had consumed monthly about 115 tons of specific CFC and about 210 tons of ethane as cleaning solvents manufacturing process. Minebea has invested about Bt 600 million in accomplishing the disuse of using CFC and Ethane with new cleaning system.
The Environmental Protection Agency of the U. S. gave Minebea group of companies in Thailand and plants in Japan its 1993 annual Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award. This is the first winner for companies in Thailand. In 1995, Minebea ex- president Goro Ogino received the same individual award from EPA. And in October 1997, EPA select the Minebea Group Companies as a winner of Best-of-the- Best Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award for Minebea's leadership among foreign investors in Thailand, and their contribution for the Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) in developing countries. In the parts manufacturing industry all over the world, it is only Minebea that became a winner of this prestigious award. |

Waste Water Treatment Facilities |

Minebea has been committed not only to the improvement of its working environment, but also to environmental protection in local neighborhoods. The Company has put forth a special effort to complete the construction of wastewater treatment facilities.
The use of water as a cleaning solvent during manufacturing processes naturally gives rise to wastewater. Minebea has invested Bt. 400 million in the construction of four wastewater treatment facilities to turn wastewater discharged from plants completly pollution- free. The Company has also stationed specialized staff in charge of these facilities.
The qualiy of wastewater after treatment is monitorated and controlled by Minebeas Laboratory Analytical Division licensed by the Thai Industrial Workes Department to ensure the wastewater satisfies the wastewater standards set forth by the Department. As a result, the wastewater discharged from the plants causes no environmental pollution.
--- The wastewater after treatment is reused for various purposes such as forestation, fish- farming and agricultural irrigation. |
